Stilleben is looking for new hosts!
A new chapter
We have decided to part with Stilleben and move on to the next adventure in our life. We have been dreaming of creating a homestead for long and now we have decided to go for it!
We are very proud of what we achieved with Stilleben and what we were able to do with this place. It allowed us to live a life based on our values, which we considered crucial.
So we are now looking for someone like you, that is interested to take over Stilleben Sweden and run it as you please. This can be in the style and with the values as we ran it, but we do not want to bound you in this idea as we know that everybody is different!
If you want to live close to nature in rural Sweden, welcoming guests in a cosy hotel or bed & breakfast? Than this might be the opportunity you have been dreaming about!
Why we are moving on
The main reason for us to move to Sweden was to live a slow life, based on our values, close to nature. Taking over Stilleben in 2019 allowed us to do that and also allowed us to run a business in which we could use our values to empower its concept. Staying with us at Stilleben means you are submerged in our energy and values and are able to relax and share this peace of mind.
We have decided to part ways with Stilleben, because we want to take these values and apply them on an even more conscious way of living and homesteading. We will not trail of far, probably ending up only a few kilometres away as we feel this region is our home. We might even be working together, who knows, as we still have lots of ideas up our sleeves about how to help people slow down when they are here!
What includes the sale
On a very practical level, this is what is offered for sale:

All the furnishings, equipment, textiles and materials to begin right away. Complete inventory is available on request.
The Stilleben brand, a holiday accommodation unlike any other, where people have stayed and experienced sustainable, relaxing and genuine hospitality.
Our network of travel agents, OTA accounts, collaborations with local cottages, local food-producers, partners/organisers of leisure activities.
Our active assistance and guidance for at least 6 months.
The Brand Stilleben
Stilleben has been in transformation over the last 6 years, especially in the form of refining its values. The 6-room hotel did always have a focus on helping people to slow down in a natural environment, away from the spectacular and the trodden paths. Here, we focus on genuine and true relaxation instead, with real healthy meals and carefully chosen activities to enhance the experiences.
You can read a little more about our values and how they are woven into the experience people have when staying with us, here! But in short: when you stay at Stilleben, you stay in our home and you get to feel and experience what we believe is good and important for you when you are on holidays.
Stilleben brand features

Active partnerships with local guides and activities

What Stilleben can be
We understand that everybody is different. Which path you took, which values you live by or which moment in your life you are in, can be really different from ours. That is why we are very aware that our way of running Stilleben might not match your expectations if you would take over. This can be on a conceptual, financial or motivational level.
Stilleben and its assets can easily transform, based on your style or plans. You can run it like a regular hotel with optional lunch and dinner options, a Bed and Breakfast, a hostel with an open kitchen, or everything in between. You could even imagine it as a large multi-family holiday home if you wish!
The surroundings
Åmot (pronounce “oh-moot”) is a small village, surrounded by forests and lakes. The closest town, Ockelbo, is a 20 minute drive away and the closest city is Gävle, which is around an hour away. Stockholm Arlanda is a 2 hour drive (which you can also get to by train, directly from Ockelbo). So it is a small remote village, but very easily reached.
But when you do arrive here, you will experience a feeling of rest and calm. Nature has not left the community completely, the forests and lakes are always in sight. Here, you will have the most amazing sleep and experience the change of seasons like you haven't before.
It is also a quite unique little village as it has a good super-market, a gas station, a pre-school (for 1 to 6-year old children) a nice swimming lake with beach and lots of local leisure activities such as fishing, cross-country skiing, hunting…
What to do in the area
Åmot is situated close to the border of 3 regions: Gästrikland, Hälsingland and Dalarna. Especially the latter two are very popular tourist destinations with the Falun Copper mines, some of the UNESCO-protected Hälsinge farms or the famous painter Carl Larsson's estate all only an hour drive away.
In the close vicinity of the town, there are lots of opportunities for hiking, from a short stroll in the village to 2km walks in the nearby forests or fine day-hikes. The "Gästrikeleden", a 270km hiking trail, runs trough the town, so you can take on a few sections of this if you're ambitious!
Next, there are ample swimming and fishing opportunities, lots of well marked mountain bike trails and in winter, great cross-country ski tracks, just here in the village! Kungsberget, a small but well appreciated downhill ski-resort is only a 30 minute drive away!
Ockelbo and other nearby villages offer a nice variety of summer cafés, gardens to visit, nice restaurants for lunch and dinner, places to go for good fika and plenty of Loppis (flea market) options!

Based in the village old school (from 1870), the hotel has been renovated thoroughly in 2017 and houses the hotel. We added an extension in 2023, which is our apartment where we live permanently. The south facing garden at the back, as well as almost all the rooms have a great view towards the meadows and forests, which you will never get tired of looking at. We promise!

The garden, terrace, sauna
Ah, the garden… our pride and joy! The abundance of plants, vegetables and flowers that come to be each summer is a sight to be seen. From the back of the hotel - on the restaurant's terrace or just in the garden - you can admire the great view overlooking the meadow and the forests in the distance.
In the garden is also our spa area, a separate area housing our wood-burning sauna with large panoramic window, a separate terrace with large hot tub and a changing room with toilet and hot shower. This space features the same fantastic view and is the perfect place to indulge after a nice day of exploring the region.

The apartment
As we moved here, it was very important for us to live in the hotel. Partly to be very close to our guests so we could provide the warm hospitality we aimed for, partly so it would be easy to combine with our family, having two kids.
We expanded our private space with an extension so the apartment features 2 bedrooms, a nice storage room and attic, a renovated bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortably large living room with south-facing view and a super cosy fireplace.
It is perfect for moving in directly and living here all year round! The nearby supermarket, gas station and pre-school makes it so attractive to live here.
If you feel your dream can come true, looking at our place, you are very welcome to get in touch. We are moving forward into the summer season for 2025, but we can discuss how and when we can agree on the hand-over.
Of course, you are welcome any time for a visit, which can be easily combined with a stay here if necessary.
